VISA INFORMATION (1) - Persons joining the work-travel Programme could travel to Australia on one of the following visas. Tourist Visa: # On this visa you can take the course but you cannot work afterwards # A tourist visa entitles the holder to study and do an internship/work experience usually for less than 3 months. The holder may be entitled to undertake a farm placement as long as the nature of the placement is purely of a voluntary nature. This usually means that the organisation has to be a voluntary/ not-for-profit organisation and the placement has to be of an 'observing' nature. Examples of non-profit organisations include Amnesty international, UNICEF and community centres. Some social work would also fall within this category. Examples of social work include; observing in a community centre, observing on community projects and projects to help disadvantaged people in the community. You cannot do any paid work on this visa. A tourist visa is most suitable for applicants coming to Australia for a short period of time and are seeking a placement in a mainly observing role within a voluntary organisations.
Student Visa: These visas are granted when the student enrols in an accredited college or educational institution to study in Australia. Students who come to Australia to study are also entitled to do a work-placement. Student visas are not automatically granted with work rights, and so students may need to apply for that separately when or after applying for the visa. These visas are granted when the student enrols in an accredited college or educational institution to study in Australia. Cultural Cube cannot issue Student visas because you are intending to join a work-travel programme. Students are able to work for 20 hours a week and full time during their semester breaks. We currently have quite a number of students undertaking a work placement on part time basis while studying at colleges and institutions. Part time placements are usually for longer periods which means the student gains more experience and spends more time with the employer. The student will receive a reference from the employer for a longer period!! This visa is not normally the ideal choice for work-travel participants.
More appropriate visa options can be found on the next page.
